Cluster Munition Campaigners are “Arms Control Persons of the Year”

Congratulations to Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and his Director-General for Security Policy and the High North Steffen Kongstad, who won the ‘2008 Arms Control Person of the Year’ award for their leadership of international efforts culminating in the cluster munition ban, signed in Oslo December 2008.

“Working with other countries and a dedicated coalition of civil society leaders and cluster munitions survivors, their actions spurred meaningful progress to bar indiscriminate weapons that have killed or maimed tens of thousands of noncombatants,” said Jeff Abramson, conventional weapons analyst with the Arms Control Association.
