Mine Action with a Human Face
Based on my field research on mine action programs in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Sudan and extensive interviews with people with experience in other countries, I believe that in order to truly secure people from the threat of mines and UXO, demining programs must be guided by clear principles. Based on, but expanded from, the ‘Bad Honnef Framework‘, I believe mine action programs should be based upon:
1. Doing no harm
2. Protecting the vulnerable
3. Participation
4. Stewardship
5. Building peace
